Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Read With My Book Club and Loved

Top Ten Tuesday I slightly tweaked this week’s TTT. The original prompt was Ten Books I’d Love to Read With My Book Club/If I Had A Book Club. Now I am in a book club, so no problem there. But it seemed more fun to me to pick a top ten of books we have already read, to serve as recommendations to everyone else 🙂

Our book club is pretty epic. There’s only six of us, and we’re a geeky group of friends/colleagues. We read a variety of things, but mostly classics, sci-fi and fantasy. And honestly we’ve read some pretty awesome books over the years (I can’t believe it’s been years already)! The books in this top ten were my favourites.

Top Ten Books I Read With My Book Club and Loved

  1. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
  2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  3. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
  4. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick
  5. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
  6. Hogfather (Discworld, #20) by Terry Pratchett
  7. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  8. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  9. Een schitterend gebrek (In Lucia’s Eyes) by Arthur Japin
  10. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

  1. I’ve read four of these! 😀 😀 Yay. And Then There Were None is just soooo creepy. I read it when I was 12 and I was like WHY. WHYYYYYY DID THIS HAPPEN. (Also I went on the wiki article just now and I think the book I read which was a really old, falling-apart copy didn’t have the postscript explaining the whole mystery so I WAS JUST REALLY CONFUSED AND CREEPED OUT WHEN I READ IT AND I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED.)

I confess I used to own TWO copies of The Book Thief because I bought one and was gifted another copy, but I never actually managed to read it. I think I must have read about a quarter or a third of it then I got bored. I know everyone loves it, even my mum picked up one of my copies and read it and said it was amazing, so I think I should probably try and give it another go.

  2. Out of curiosity: what is the theme of your book club? (if there is one)

I’m in three different book club in GoodReads now (2 for Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and one for Canadian Lit). I can’t read everything (and sometimes I already read the selection of the month) but I love getting book ideas this way. I’m reading The Carpet Makers by Andreas Eschbach, a german author I might not ever have known otherwise! And it’s really, really good!

  3. I think I need a book club or something to finally tackle Rebecca 😛 I have read only two out of the ten, but LOVED both (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and And Then There Were None). I own two copies of And Then There Were None! <<< only happens with books I really, really love 🙂 And it's so cool that you are in a book club!! Sounds like heaps of fun.
