LGBT Month: Progress and books that have been on my radar…

LGBT Month So we’re now more than a week into LGBT Month. How are you all doing? I must say I’m really enjoying the event. The Twitter party on Saturday was a success! Do join us for the next one on April 26th(iirc)! Also check out everyone’s posts:

And don’t forget to enter the giveaway for The Vintner’s Luck!

Now, as for my progress… I haven’t gotten around to reading as much as I had hoped. I’ve started reading Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and am about 75% in. I love it! It’s very witty, the writing is beautiful and it’s really fascinating… If you’re into classics I absolutely recommend this one. Do try to get an edition that has footnotes, as there is so much going on that you would be missing out without them. I’ve got this edition (ISBN 9780141184272) and can recommend it!

I’ll be travelling this weekend (leaving tonight), so I am putting Orlando on hold and will be reading e-books while I’m away (IF I have time anyway). I will probably read Carmilla and/or How to Repair a Mechanical Heart (which I won during the Twitter party, many thanks also to author J.C. Lillis!)

Anyway, a few days ago I introduced you to five of my favourite LGBT books. It’s still quite early in the month, so I wanted to give you more ideas by introducing you to some books that have been on my radar (or even on my actual shelf) for a while and that I have high expectations of 😉 Some of these you might have seen on my TBR list…

Classics

Historical fiction

Science fiction & fantasy

Young adult

  1. Great post! I have read Every Day and Will Grayson, Will Grayson – both are just so awesome! The Summer I Wasn’t Me is also pretty good, too. I need to get ahold of Aristotle and Dante for the read along.

Really enjoying the month so far, too. It’s been awesome!

    Enjoy your break away 🙂

    1. There are so many awesome(sounding) books out there that really I wish April was longer 😉 I’ll get around to reading them eventually 🙂

    1. Sorry, late reply! I just finished WG, WG last night (this morning, actually). I think my expectations were too high 🙁 Didn’t dislike it but I was hoping for more. Oh well! I can’t wait for the Ari&Dante read-along, I’m going to start tonight!

  2. I’m trying to read and review one LGBT book a week this month, but I really cut it close last week and haven’t even started this week’s. My own fault for getting a bunch of ARCs coming out this month/next month (and last month) at the same time, but I decided to participate in LGBT Month at the last minute.

I really want to read Openly Straight and The Summer I Wasn’t Me. I’m not a big fan of John Green, but I’ll probably read Will Grayson, Will Grayson too.

    1. That sounds like a tough schedule! I hope you’ll get around to a bit of LGBT reading for the event 😉 But you read Annie on My Mind right? That has actually been on my radar for a long time too, not sure how I missed it on the list :S

  3. You have a great list of books! Forbidden Colours by Yukio Mishima, Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood and The Last of the Wine by Mary Renault are books I desperately want to start reading soon. I’m just waiting until I’ve finished my summer exams so I can enjoy them without feeling like I should be revising or something instead 🙂 Although, I do want to have a break and read Aristotle and Dante for the read-a-long.

    1. I must say I am leaning more toward YA reads during an event like this because it requires less focus, I suppose? I finished Orlando last week and even for that one I wish I had given it a bit more of my focus… I have no idea if I’ll even get to finish Forbidden Colors (started yesterday) o_o
