This month’s discussion topic for the LGBT Challenge is LGBT YA Covers.
I love a pretty cover. If I can pick from several different covers I am likely to buy the edition with the prettier cover even if it’s more expensive. I absolutely love the more ‘modern’ abstract and/or colourful covers that seem to be in fashion right now!
And sometimes I don’t understand redesigns… Like Boy Meets Boy. I LOVE the cover above, but the new one (which I had no choice but to buy) is kind of meh:
Will Grayson, Will Grayson however seems pretty lucky with all its covers, I mean how cool is that cover above? And these are the more popular alternatives, not too shabby either (I love the purple one):
I don’t mind photos on the cover if it’s done nicely. I really like these ones:
By the way, that redesign of Stir-Fry I like more than the edition I have:
Another thing that annoys me about covers is the big logos of all the prizes a book has won. It’s cool if a book has won prizes but… For example, I LOVE the cover of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, but…
This is the cover: and this is MY cover: 🙁
I don’t know why but I’m not a big fan of these covers of Huntress and Ash… but then look at the cover of Malinda Lo’s Adaptation! I love it!
So do I judge a book by its cover? I try not to, but I do love a good cover 😉
