Bye bye February…

Bye bye February…

brilliant monthsAnd February’s gone. And I fully realise it’s been March for two days 😉

February was a short month but filled with loooong books. Out of the books I started reading I only finished two this month: Veronica Roth’s Divergent and Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. They were complete opposites, not just the genre but also how I feel about them.

I wanted to enjoy Divergent and almost everyone I know loved it, but… I admit I was hoping for another Hunger Games ‘experience’ but nope. Complete let-down, glad I didn’t buy the whole box set after all. But I will say: despite being disappointed (and I mean 2-star-disappointed), I am looking forward to the movie. I’m convinced at least that one is going to be great!

As for Rebecca… it’s a masterpiece. I love it. It was one of my book club reads but more about that in a future post. But I’m glad I can now finally watch the movie and the musical. I swear I’ve been wanting to see and listen to that musical for years now but I didn’t want to spoil the book for myself. VICTORY, AT LAST. My world is a little more complete now.

I also started a grand total of three other books in February: Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch, Homer’s Odyssey as you know from the read-along posts, and Georgette Heyer’s The Grand Sophy which I picked up in a moment when I needed a lighter read. I just finished The Goldfinch a moment ago but hey, it’s March, so my opinion on that will have to wait (hint: ~*~feelings~*~)

  1. If you want another “Hunger Games ‘experience’” you should read Battle Royale. 😉 Or maybe you have already read it… I quite enjoyed Divergent, but it wasn’t love for me either. And Insurgent was so boring I don’t think I’ll ever pick up the last book. Especially not since I’ve read the spoilers so I know how it ends…
Rebecca! Yes. I really need to read that one. I’ve seen the musical here and it was FANTASTIC 🙂

    1. I loved the Battle Royale movie 🙂 I haven’t read the book (or manga) yet but I plan to.

The ‘Hunger Games experience’ for me is finally reading another series (that isn’t Harry Potter) that made me want to not sleep and just keep reading, and read all the books in a row (usually with series I read a few other books in between). Divergent was getting such good ratings that I was hoping to experience that again but alas 🙁 I fell for the hype. Good to hear I don’t have to bother reading on 😉

I’m so jealous you got to see Rebecca! I hope they’ll revive it soon and I really regret putting it off 🙁 It was even playing in Japan when I was there…
