About me
Hello. My name is Carola and I’m a 20-something from the Netherlands.

My two biggest passions in life are Japan and books. I studied Japanese and lived there for a year, before moving on to book studies. I love books as objects and I love to read. I’m especially interested in Japanese literature and science fiction, but also young-adult, lgbt, and fantasy.

Beyond that, I’m a linguaphile. I enjoy baking, and massive cups of tea. I love to travel. Adore music. Need yoga. And I am a collector. I like to wander around book shops, see musicals and go to concerts. And I’m a bit of a geek.

About the blog
This is a book blog, first and foremost, but I don’t shy away from posting about other things I love! One of my specialties on this blog is Japanese fiction, and lately I am also reading a lot in Japanese, so I will be posting my experience with that as well.

The title, brilliant years, is borrowed from a song of my all-time favourite band, L’Arc~en~Ciel. I’m hugely passionate about this band, I can genuinely say they changed my life around back in 2001 ♥

Brilliant Years
陽炎の果てへとつづく
想いはどこへゆくのか
君の足跡は消えた
届くはずもない
again I want to see you

again I want to see you
…かなわなくても
I wanna hear you
I want to see you
I want to see you…

again I want to see you

  1. Hi C.! Can I just start by saying that I LOVE your blog? I love, love its name and that it’s full with Japanese literature – I just <3 everything. I think I'm going to be your regular stalker 😉
And OMG, we're like soul twins! We both love Japan (I lived in there too!!) and L’Arc~en~Ciel (I listen to all kinds of music but Laruku is different… they are special) as well as lgbt *high five* and ya books. So just wow~ And so glad you stumbled on my blog. 🙂

    1. Aww your message makes me so happy! I’m also really glad I stumbled upon your blog, I love love love it! I’m also ridiculously excited about your April LGBT event, working on my sign-up post now 😀
Where in Japan did you live? I lived in Nagasaki for a year 🙂
I don’t know what it is about L’Arc but they just… I can’t even describe it. No matter how inactive they are, they are my favourite thing in existence forever <3

      1. “ridiculously excited about your April LGBT event, working on my sign-up post now” YAY.
I lived in Osaka a bit, then in Kanazawa. Also traveled a lot, spent a few weeks in Tokyo, etc. Was never in Nagasaki though…
“can’t even describe it. No matter how inactive they are, they are my favourite thing in existence forever” YESSSS. I feel exactly the same way. Have you ever seen them live?

        1. You can’t really go wrong with Osaka 🙂 If you ever have the chance to visit, I really recommend Nagasaki though! I’m not a huge city girl so Nagasaki was perfect for me to live, but it’s also a great place for touristy things 🙂

I’ve seen them live a few times in Japan and two of their Europe concerts. Couldn’t be happier! I’m crossing my fingers for another world tour! Have you seen them?

          1. “not a huge city girl” Same. That’s why I liked Kanazawa. Although I’ll always have a soft spot for Tokyo 🙂

Me too. Both in Japan and in Europe (Paris). And yes, another world tour would be wonderful!

        2. Isn’t seeing them live just amazing? I cry my eyes out during the first song every time 🙂

I love Tokyo but I get sort of nervous at the lack of greenery so I have to flee the city after a few days 😉

        3. VAMPS was fun the first year or two, now I’m so tired of them 🙁 L’Arc’s lack of activity disappoints me because I fear they are all more interested in doing solo projects and only get together once every few years when they need big money… Not very positive thinking, I know… orz

          1. Yeah, Vamps should have remained as a fun side project…but I think Hyde likes Vamps more these days… *sigh*. Still, I’m just happy Laruku EXISTS at all:)
